We were both speaking at Scripps College in California. At the time she was speaking for the United Nations Population Fund which works strenuously for girls' education and also for reproductive health including freedom from violence such as Female Genital Mutilation. When I wrote my book "34 Million Friends of the Women of the World" she wrote the first chapter, telling her story of bargaining to go through FGM in order to be allowed to continue her schooling. It has inspired many many people. I am cofounder of 34 Million Friends of UNFPA. Kakenya is one extraordinary woman. I met Kakenya way back in 2002 or 2003.
