Learning for a Better World Foundation Trust visits Kakenya’s Dream

Last month, Kakenya’s Dream had the pleasure of hosting 14 members of Learning for a Better World (LBW) Foundation Trust, our Australia-based partner organization that provides vocational and tertiary education scholarships for our students.

The LBW Trust team met directly with our students, their families and the community. They visited nearby universities attended by KCE alumni, a rural primary and secondary school in the area, and a local health center.

Members of LBW Trust team experienced a firsthand look at how Kakenya’s Dream operates to support and transform the lives of girls and our wider community. Check out what they had to say about their visit below:

“We experienced a culture that is complex, and it is now clear to us why it was important for Dr. Kakenya to start a boarding school for girls from this community to access their education. We also saw a community that is embracing the value of educating girls, and students who are determined to come and give back to the community at the end of their studies. We saw more Kakenyas! It’s pretty special!”- Graham and Gail Carters.

“The visit allowed us to map out what Kakenya’s Dream is doing on the ground, and I congratulate Dr. Kakenya and her team on their hard work and success thus far. It’s even more inspiring that a new campus is being built to support kindergarten through grade 12 students, and an upcoming health facility that will support the community at large.”- Ben Dillon.

“I have seen a land that is so beautiful and fertile, and welcoming people that embraced us wherever we visited. My husband and I particularly loved visiting the homes and families of Sharon, Linet and Magdalene, who are the three students we mentor and look after while they pursue their education in universities in Australia.”- Sophie Todhunter.

“Kakenya’s Dream has extremely powerful voices that support girls’ education and I urge that you continue to use your voices to tell other people about how important it is to educate girls because every girl has the power to change the world.” Mary Konstantopoulos, LBW Board Secretary.

“Like a boomerang, we will always come back and visit Kakenya’s Dream because we have so much love for you.” David Vaux, LBW Board Chairman.
