WHAT WE DO

Kakenya’s Dream is leading the way to empower girls and transform rural communities through education

WHO WE ARE

Dr. Kakenya Ntaiya is a leading advocate for girls’ education & empowerment. Surviving female genital mutilation & avoiding an arranged marriage as a child, Kakenya went on to become the first woman from her community to go to college in the US. She founded Kakenya’s Dream to continue paving the way for the next generation of women leaders in her community.

Founded in 2008, Kakenya’s Dream leverages education to empower girls and transform rural communities. We believe every girl, no matter where she is born, deserves a chance to dream, learn, and achieve her full potential.

WHERE WE WORK

The rural communities we serve are some of the most marginalized and underserved in the world. 80% of women undergo FGM, over 50% marry before age 18, and just 17% finish primary school.

At Kakenya’s Dream, 100% of girls finish school and live free from FGM and child marriage.
