Communications and Marketing Manager, Andela Kenya
Rehema Kahurananga happens to be fascinated by communication and the power it has to take a product, brand, or organization to the next level. Born to a Kenyan mother and Tanzanian father and brought up in Ethiopia, the question of “where is home” for Rehema is a tricky one!
Rehema is currently the Communications and Marketing Manager at Andela Kenya. Her primary role involves managing the team in charge of telling Andela’s story in East Africa, positioning the company as the ultimate place of work for aspiring and talented software developers in Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda.
Prior to walking through the doors at Andela Kenya, Rehema was the Communication and PR Officer at the African Guarantee Fund, a pan-African fund aimed at alleviating poverty through supporting a robust SME sector in Africa. Before that, Rehema served as the Regional Communications Coordinator with mothers2mothers, an organization dealing with maternal and child health and HIV. For 3.5 years, her main responsibilities included overseeing the communications function for Kenya, Uganda and Malawi programmes and liaising closely with colleagues based in Cape Town, London, and Los Angeles. Setting up a systematic story collection process, creating a variety of print and audio-visual organizational materials, and preparing staff to serve as spokespersons for the organization are some of the tasks she enjoyed most.
Rehema is a story-teller at heart. She also spent five years as a writer and later, Deputy Editor at True Love, East Africa’s top-selling women’s magazine. She holds a BA in Communication with a history minor from Randolph College in the United States.
As the co-founder of a 15,000+ member Facebook page called Hello Mama (Kenyan Moms), Rehema is keen on issues surrounding the promotion of enterprise development in Africa.
